NFI, a leading supply chain company headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, has landed a spot as one of Heavy Duty Trucking magazine’s Top 50 Green Fleets in 2014. This industry list features companies in pursuit of more sustainable and environmentally friendly operations.
With the compilation of the Top 50 Green Fleets, Heavy Duty Trucking (HDT) magazine recognized the need that shippers have for transportation providers that can support their sustainability initiatives. Transportation companies selected for the list completed a short survey about their vehicles, alternative fuel usage, and other green initiatives. HDT magazine editors chose the Top 50 Fleets based on who they saw were ahead of the curve in their sustainability efforts.
There are numerous ways for companies to improve their supply chain’s impact on the environment. NFI has made sustainability a part of everyday functions. By improving fuel economy, using alternative fuels, and building green facilities, NFI aims to lower its environmental footprint. From the usage of natural gas and equipment outfits, NFI has been able to test and improve fuel/asset utilization, and reduce waste. The third-party logistics provider is continuously implementing innovative ways to support customers with sustainable operations.
NFI runs multiple natural gas fleets out of its company-owned tractor fleet. A team of managers meets monthly to review testing and discuss potential improvements. Along with initiatives in solar and lighting in its warehouses, NFI has outfitted its fleet with low-rolling-resistance wide-based tires, battery APUs and shore power, and aerodynamic facets.
