Our Focus Areas

“At NFI, we recognize the importance of being a good corporate citizen. We have focused our attention on diversity, and inclusion efforts, supporting our employees, giving back to communities, and investing in supply chain sustainability.” – Sid Brown, CEO

Diversity and Inclusion

  • Cradles to Crayons
  • Puerto Rican Action Committee
  • Black Girls Code

In 2019, NFI established the Executive D&I Council, and the following year Diversity became a business imperative in our long-term strategic plan. With a diverse workforce of more than 16,000 employees, we continuously strive to create a workplace where all people are valued and respected, have equal access to opportunities, and are encouraged to fulfill their potential, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, or other diverse backgrounds. We recognize that diversity and inclusion is critical to our business success as it provides our employees with unique collaboration opportunities in a more innovative and engaged environment.

Most recently, as part of our cultural celebrations held throughout the year, NFI employees supported the Cradles to Crayons “I Have A Dream” backpack program and sponsored the Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey’s Second Annual Festival Playero (Concert at the Beach) in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Supporting Our People

  • NFI Cares Program

We are a family that supports and cares for one another, especially through times of hardship. The NFI Cares program, founded by owners, Sid, Ike, and Jeff Brown, provides aid to employees facing financial distress from a catastrophic event. With funds provided by the Brown family and employee donations, NFI Cares provides financial relief to our team members who need it most.

Pandemic Support

  • NFI Covid-19 Relief Fund

The COVID-19 Relief Fund was focused on supporting employees experiencing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was critical for NFI to be there for our employees who are the heart of the company. With the COVID-19 Relief Fund, we helped over 400 employees and raised more than $340,000.

Corporate Citizenship

  • American Heart Association

Guided by our value of Social Responsibility, NFI is committed to sharing time, talent, and resources to uplift people and care for the environment. We have focused on taking proactive steps to create stronger communities by investing in programs that support diversity and inclusion, health and welfare, and education.

Education Accessibility

  • Cristo Rey High School

Second-generation owner Mr. Bernard Brown believed that quality education should be accessible to all. His dedication towards education equality led him to become a Founding Member and Trustee of Cumberland County College. Today, we continue Mr. Brown’s legacy by working with organizations committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders.

#NFIBeTheWe

The #NFIBeTheWe campaign is a way for employees across the company to share stories of how they live our values. The following highlights are ways in which our teams embrace Social Responsibility, by caring for our communities throughout North America.

Wreaths Across America

Honoring our Service Members.

NFI’s Greensboro, NC, team helped Wreaths Across America by storing, distributing, and transporting 30,000 wreaths to honor our fallen veterans.

North TX Food Bank

Engineering Food Security.

NFI supports the North Texas Food Bank through various avenues, having donated engineering services and volunteering to help families in need.

Philabundance

Delivering Hunger Relief.

In Camden, NJ, NFI’s Corporate team participated in The Preston & Steve Show’s Camp Out for Hunger and delivered a truckload packed with 18 pallets of food, with over 20,000 nonperishable items to Philabundance. This initiative was in partnership with our neighbors, the Michaels Organization and Conner Strong & Buckelew to support those in need in our local communities.

Educational Partners

Supporting the Next Generation

NFI partnered with Cristo Rey, a college-prep high school for low-income students. Cristo Rey utilizes a work-study program, pairing students with local businesses to work one day per week. The program provides important professional development skills that are incorporated into their classroom curriculum, in addition to offsetting the cost of tuition through job partner sponsorships.

Sustainability

NFI is pushing the industry forward toward a zero-emission future. We have implemented a variety of clean technologies and equipment to reduce our carbon footprint across both our transportation and warehousing operations in North America. This pushes not only us, but our customers’ sustainable supply chain initiatives forward.
