Across the Highways and Interstates of the United States lies some of the greatest Truck Stops you’ll ever encounter. After long hauls it’s nice to have a place to go to escape the inside of your cab for a bit. Whether you simply want to refuel or want to feel like you are on a brief vacation, here are a few of the most popular truck stops in America.
- Iowa 80 Truck Stop: Walcott, IA
Known as the “World’s Largest Truck Stop”, Iowa 80 Truck Stop has certainly earned its recognition with over 50 years of service. Serving over 5,000 customers a day, this stop is known for its many amenities including 24 private showers, barber shop, dentist, church services and a laundromat. Need a break from the road views? Have a seat in their movie theater. Don’t worry about not finding a meal to meet your cravings as Iowa 80 offers an array of dining choices from their own kitchen to a Wendy’s and Caribou Coffee. If you want something on the healthy side then you can take a stroll through their 50-foot long salad bar. Every July, Iowa 80 hosts a Truckers Jamboree with over 175 exhibits, fireworks, and more.
- South of the Border: Hamer, SC
If you’ve ever traveled down I-95 and hit the North Carolina, South Carolina border than you may have noticed the giant lit sombrero letting drivers know you’ve reached the infamous “South of The Border.” This truck stop also serves as a road-side attraction complete with an amusement park, sombrero tower, and a reptile lagoon. If you need to rest you can stay at the South of The Border Motor Inn or Camp Pedro, a campground complete with 100 sites. South of the Border also has a variety of six restaurants including a steakhouse, diner, and a few food stands for those looking for a quick bite.
- Little America: Flagstaff, AZ
Although there are many Little America Hotel’s, the one in Flagstaff Arizona offers the perfect break for those traveling on Interstate 40. A fueling and service station equipped with scales and a convenience store is located among the hotel. The hotel offers driver room rates and has a swimming pool, laundromat, and even a golf course. - Jubitz Truck Stop and Travel Center: Portland, OR
Jublitz Truck Stop and Travel Center is known for their unparalleled customer services that cater specifically to truck driver’s needs. If you want to get out of your sleeper for the night Jubitz has a hotel with over 100 rooms. They also have a restaurant, lounge and movie theater. Both you and your truck can get pampered with a truck wash and a trip to Cosmo’s Barber Salon.
- Highlands Petro Stop: Sturtevant, WI
Highland Petro Stop, a TravelCenters of America location, is located of Route 20 in Wisconsin. If your back aches from your recent haul, you can visit the on-site chiropractor. Or if you just want to freshen up they have showers and a hair salon on site as well. Enjoy a sweet treat from the bakery or catch a movie at the theater before you head back on the road. This location also offers DOT exams.
- Lodi Travel Center: Lodi, OH
Located off I-76 and I-71 is Lodi Travel Center, a TravelCenters of America location. Aside from fueling up, drivers can take a walk on their trail or shoot some basketball to stretch their legs. Located in Nevada, not far from Vegas, is Whiskey Pete’s Truck Stop. Stay at the hotel or get a taste of Vegas at the casino. There are a lot of food choices including Ihop and a buffet. Truck parking and fueling are not the only truck driver specific services; drivers can take a break in the drivers’ lounge area, take a shower, or visit the Truckers Store.
