CAMDEN, N.J. (September 10, 2021) — Container Freight, part of the NFI Cal Cartage family of companies, has been named as Target Corporation’s 2021 Drayage Provider of the Year. The award is given out on an annual basis and recognizes drayage providers who deliver exceptional service to Target throughout the previous year.
In 2020, Target noted that the NFI Cal Cartage team stood out as a partner they could rely on as the company experienced unforeseen, sporadic volume. The team, led by NFI Cal Cartage vice president Kent Prokop and the Container Freight Dispatch team of Dennis Sames, Aidee Serrano, Ernisto Mejia, Ivan Galicia, and Andru Quevedo, along with 72 dedicated drivers, were thanked for their support during an unforgettable year. Their attitude and strong partnership were called out as key reasons Target’s peak season was a success.
“2020 was an incredibly challenging year for the LA/Long Beach gateway,” states the recognition communication from Target. “From the volume drop at the beginning of the pandemic to the peak season surge that caused challenges at all the terminals, our drayage operations were tested like never before. Container Freight and NFI Cal Cartage are well deserving of the award, Dray Provider of the Year.”
Over the course of the year, NFI Cal Cartage stepped up to manage increased volume into the Port of Long Beach and took a terminal that had limited peel pile operation experience and turned it into one of Target’s top performing terminals. The team consistently provided support to work Sunday gates and coordinate empty gates. When the chassis shortage impacted Target, the NFI Cal Cartage team worked diligently to source additional chassis for the shared pools. Likewise, when Target needed additional support to help other drayage providers pull loads or run direct routes to the Upstream Distribution Center, Container Freight and NFI Cal Cartage stepped up.
