Supply chain solutions provider, NFI, has been named a 2015 Top Green Provider by Food Logistics, the only publication dedicated exclusively to global supply chain solutions for the food and beverage industry. With a commitment to improving fuel economy, using alternative fuels, and building green facilities, NFI has made sustainability a part of their supply chain culture.
The Top Green Providers list focuses on sustainability in the global food supply chain with profiles of companies who are exceeding industry standards in their sector. This year’s list includes grocers, 3PLs, cold storage providers, pallet and packaging manufacturers, software and technology companies, and others whose products and services are elevating sustainability to a ‘competitive advantage’ in our industry.
“The 2015 Top Green Providers list is our largest ever, signaling the growing importance of sustainability throughout the global food and beverage supply chain,” notes Lara L. Sowinski, editor-in-chief for Food Logistics. “Applying sustainable practices in the agriculture, transportation, warehousing, and retailing sectors is critical in addressing the environmental and business demands of the 21st century, particularly for our industry.”
NFI has expertise in the food and beverage industry and the company is continuously implementing innovative ways to support customers with sustainable operations. The third-party logistics provider runs natural gas fleets in California, Pennsylvania, and Texas, and has outfitted its fleet with low-rolling- resistance wide-based tires, battery APUs and shore power, and aerodynamic facets. Across NFI’s 25+ million sq. ft. of warehousing space in North America, propane powered forklifts and an extensive recycling program are used in daily operations. NFI’s headquarters operates solely on solar power and its intermodal division also participates in sustainability through double-stacking containers to create better fuel efficiency.
Companies on this year’s Top Green Providers list will be profiled in the June 2015 print issue of Food Logistics, as well as online at www.foodlogistics.com.
