NFI, a leading supply chain company headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, is thrilled to announce that Bill Bliem, Senior Vice President of Fleet Services, has been named a 2014 Truck Fleet Innovator by Heavy Duty Trucking. The list of Innovators includes leaders from three private fleets along with NFI, the only for-hire carrier represented.
Bliem has led his Fleet Services team in implementing sustainability efforts to decrease NFI’s environmental impact. Previously a director of operations at Ryder Transportation, Bliem has been a member of the NFI team for 5 years. He oversees all fleet maintenance functions including fuel purchasing and management, asset purchasing and management, NFI Trailer Leasing division, tolls, licensing, permits, and corporate purchasing.
NFI has outfitted and operated their fleet to improve fuel efficiency and maximize asset usage. By installing wide-based tires and tractor airtabs, implementing shifting techniques and speed restrictions, NFI has been able to get the most out of every mile, while lowering emissions. NFI has also led the way in converting several dedicated fleets to natural gas powered trucks.
“The winners are chosen from nominations from the industry, including those from suppliers, fellow fleet executives, associations, drivers and others,” Heavy Duty Trucking explains. “They are all heavily focused on sustainability and fuel efficiency, including higher mpg and alternative powertrains such as electric and natural gas.”
Heavy Duty Trucking will feature Bliem in its March issue. In addition, awards will be presented to all of the 2014 Innovators on March 26th in Louisville, KY, during the Mid-America Trucking Show Fleet Forum.
