A Historic Year of Innovation for NFI: 2018 Highlights

This past year, NFI celebrated its 86th year in business. This year was one of innovation and technology, as NFI continued to invest in growing its capabilities and expertise. Here are some highlights from 2018:

NFI Joins Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA)

NFI became a member of Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA) in April 2018. BiTA was established by technology and transportation experts with the goal of developing a platform for dialogue, building common standards, and promoting the education of blockchain technologies. NFI is one of thousands of companies that have joined BiTA, including some of the largest shippers and providers.

NFI Partners with Daimler Trucks North America for Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet

In June, NFI announced its partnership with Daimler Trucks North America for a Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet to operate its new electric vehicle model, the Freightliner eCascadia™. The fully electrified heavy-duty truck was premiered in early June. NFI plans to incorporate 10 eCascadias into its drayage operations from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to California’s Inland Empire in early 2019.

NFI Partners with Volvo Trucks LIGHTS Project to Test Electric Trucks

NFI announced in early October that it would be partnering with Volvo Trucks and California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the Volvo Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions (LIGHTS) project. The Volvo LIGHTS project is part of a statewide initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment. As part of the partnership, NFI will be operating Volvo Trucks’ all-electric truck demonstrators in Southern California in 2019.

This year, NFI was recognized by various customers, publications, and associations for its success, dedication, and commitment to providing excellent service. NFI was honored to receive awards from Lowe’s, EPA SmartWay, Inbound Logistics, Transport Topics, and many more:

NFI’s 86th year in business was historic as the company continues to evolve and deliver industry-leading supply chain solutions. 2018 is expected to be another great year as NFI continues to explore innovative end-to-end solutions across the company for its customers.
