Across the United States and Canada, NFI owns or operates over 21 million square feet of office, warehouse and distribution space. It is important that we ensure these facilities operate as efficiently as possible, as buildings can account for up to 46% of Carbon Dioxide emissions each year (USGBC). We have just started to put solar roofs on the facilities where it is beneficial. Our Cherry Hill headquarters has a solar roof and is operating solely on solar power. By outfitting our facilities with the latest in energy efficient technology, we expect to have a positive impact on these negative emissions statistics.

Welcome to the NFI Cherry Hill headquarters – we are proud that is it a sustainable showcase.

NFI Sustainable Warehousing Facility

1. Fluorescent lighting

Sixty eight percent of our Cherry Hill Corporate Headquarters has been outfitted with fluorescent T5 lighting. Our entire parking lot uses fluorescent lighting as well. T5 high efficiency fluorescent lighting is approximately 25% more efficient than traditional metal halide bulbs.

2. Propane Powered Fork lifts

We have 14 forklifts in use in our warehouse, half of which operate solely on propane- one of the cleanest combusting gases. The other seven lifts are extended reach lifts and can only be run on electricity.

3. Sky Lights

Our warehouse is outfitted with skylights, which allows us to turn off lighting in various portions of the building where sunlight is sufficient.

4. Solar Panels

6,150 solar panels have been installed on the warehouse roof, bringing in 1,322,250 watts of completely clean and renewable solar energy. The entire Cherry Hill headquarters operates on solar power.

5. Motion Sensors

Motion sensors are installed throughout the entire office portion of the building, allowing lights to turn off when not in use in all rooms. No electricity is wasted on unnecessary lighting.

6. Insulated Roofing

During the colder months, our warehouse retains heat through its insulated roofing. This insulation allows us to keep above any freezing temperatures without constantly running heaters.

7. Cardboard Recycling

We have several disposal bins used for recycling the thousands of pounds of cardboard generated by the warehouse.

8. Paper Recycling

Every office is equipped with bins for recycling used office paper. To further reduce our consumption, every printer has been “locked” so that only double-sided printing can be accomplished.

9. Bike Rack

For our employees that live within biking distance of our offices, we encourage commuting to work on a bike instead of driving their cars.
